Data Stewardship Responsibilities
Having access to institutional data comes with data stewardship responsibilities. Data stewardship has broad applications including, but not limited to:
- Only accessing data necessary to perform job and making sure others do the same
- Maintaining confidentiality where sensitive data/information is concerned
- Making every effort to ensure data is interpreted/presented correctly
- Understanding the big picture
- Comparing apples-to-apples
- Leveraging available summaries and data resources; making the best use of everyone’s time
- Guiding others who are seeking data to ensure time/energy is not wasted on non-essential pursuits
- Need to know vs nice to know
- Data back to 1908?
- Saying “No,” when needed
